Hay Retreats boasts two elegant and comfortable three bedroomed townhouses.
No 25 is named after the renowned traveller and writer Bruce Chatwin, who wrote the evocative novel ‘On the Black Hill’, which was set in and around Hay.
Next door is no 26, or Thomas House, and is named after Dylan Thomas, the legendary Welsh poet.
It seemed fitting to rename our houses after two quintessentially British writers- one Welsh and one English- as the houses are sited right on the river and road borders between Wales and England, on the Welsh side.

You will enter the house via the front door and small hallway, which also contains the handily located cloakroom. Then walk into the excellently equipped kitchen, with all the usual mod cons. This is a spacious and warm gathering place, with French windows opening onto the deck and the river beyond.
Kitchen
Of course we provide all that you would expect in a modern kitchen: washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, gas hob and electric fan oven, along with an array of quality cooking equipment and utensils, sharp knives and sharpener, with double placements for five people of cutlery, glasses, mugs and plates etc.
So you don’t need to think about the ’round the edges’ things, we also give you washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, washing gel, compost bags and bin bags.

First floor
Open the French windows of the kitchen, leave the town behind, and step onto the deck, which opens directly onto the River Wye, fringed by horse chestnut trees. Very few houses in Hay have this privilege.
There is a table and chairs waiting (cushions usually in the cupboard under the stairs) for that morning coffee listening to the river, or for sharing a glass of wine over a chat with friends or family. Or hopefully both. Our guests often comment on the stunning location, and the feeling of peace and relaxation that pervades by being right by the river.
We have also just added a La Fuma reclining chair. Those of you familiar with the brand will know these chairs offer the most luxurious relaxation. Enjoy.
Living Room
Master Bedroom and ensuite
Go upstairs to the first floor. On the left is the master bedroom with en suite shower room, and on the right the sitting room.
We provide Egyptian cotton bed linen, and feather pillows and duvet for the king size bed, though we can also offer hypoallergenic bedding on request. The shower room has a water efficient large head, and the floor has been recently retiled.
To the right is the generously proportioned sitting room with a huge sofa that takes up nearly the length of one side, for really stretching out and drinking in the view. Two deep armchairs complete the seating. The French windows completely retract onto a balcony for those warm summer evenings that are increasingly the norm, even in Wales, so you can feel completely in nature without stirring from a reclined position. Alternatively you can cosy in, curtains drawn, and play games or binge box sets on the Smart TV.
